Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering
B.S. (EE), 1991, Cornell University
M.Eng. (EE), 1992, Cornell University
Ph.D., 1996, Cornell University
Dr.
Flueck joined the IIT faculty in August of 1996. His
research focuses on power system stability and control.
He is currently developing robust and efficient computational
tools that will assist power engineers in planning and
operating large-scale electric power systems, while
enforcing security and enabling competition. The goal
of Dr. Flueck's research is to numerically compute the
safe operating region of electric power systems under
varying load/generation levels and facility outage contingencies.
Determining the safe operating region of a large-scale
nonlinear dynamical system is computationally demanding,
thereby requiring extensive research in numerical methods.
Dr.
Flueck's teaching activities concentrate on challenging
students with hands-on problem solving. Students can
expect course assignments to be heavy on the mental
gymnastics. On the other hand, successful engineers
are creative and expressive! Dr. Flueck encourages his
students to improve their analytical skills, their creativity
skills and their communication skills for success in
electrical and computer engineering.
Dr.
Flueck's service activities target the promotion of
power engineering. He is the Assistant Director of the
American Power Conference, sponsored by Illinois Institute
of Technology. Additionally, he is the Publicity Chair
of the Chicago Chapter of the Power Engineering Society
within the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
